How do I complete Transfer Orientation?
To satisfy your orientation requirement, you must complete two things: 1) Register for and attend an orientation session on the date of your choosing, and 2) Complete the Transfer Orientation Module in eLearning with a score of 100%.

How do I register for an orientation session?
To register for a Transfer Orientation session:

  • Note: Students should first accept their offer of admission before proceeding to orientation registration.
  • Go to the Galaxy Portal and log in with your NetID and password
  • Under Orion Self-Service, click on Applicant Center
  • Click on Transfer Orientation Center. The next screen will show the Transfer Orientation FAQ page, please review these. On the left, click the Transfer Orientation Center tab.
  • Click on the Register for Transfer Orientation link
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to select from available dates and submit payment.

Be sure to note whether the selected date is for a virtual or in-person session. Your Transfer Orientation registration request will be cancelled if correct payment is not immediately received.
  • What if the Transfer Orientation Center doesn't display my correct major?
The Transfer Orientation registration page will always display your admitted major only. If you have changed your major since being admitted to UT Dallas, your orientation registration will display your updated major for advising purposes. Students should proceed forward with orientation registration even if their updated major is not displayed.

How do I know which orientation dates are virtual and which are in person?
Transfer Orientations on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 will be in-person on campus. Transfer Orientations on Nov. 19 and Dec. 3 will be held virtually in Microsoft Teams.

    What time is Transfer Orientation?
In-person orientations will be 12 to 5 p.m. Virtual orientations will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with an additional academic information meeting to be determined by your school of study. After registering for Transfer Orientation, students will receive more information regarding the orientation schedule, details, and access information to their UTD email.

What is the difference between virtual and in-person orientations?
Both in-person and virtual orientations will consist of a meeting where you connect with other students, learn about UT Dallas resources, and can ask questions of a current transfer student. As part of the Transfer Orientation process, you will have an academic information meeting with your school of study’s advising office. Depending on holds and your school of study’s advising process, you may register for classes before, during, or after your orientation date. Please check your UT Dallas student email account regularly to be up to date on your orientation details.

Can I bring guests/family with me to orientation?
Students are able to add one guest to accompany them at in-person orientations. When registering for an orientation session, students will have the option to submit a family or guest name and email. For students attending virtual orientation, our office will contact family members with information they would have received at an in-person orientation, connect them to Comet Families, and answer any questions they may have.

    Orientation Requirement

    Is orientation mandatory?
Yes. The only way to register for classes before January 2022 is to attend orientation. Transfer Orientation provides vital information about UT Dallas and ensures you meet with an academic advisor and register for classes.

Are second baccalaureate students required to complete an orientation?
No. Students admitted to UT Dallas with second baccalaureate, transient, or certificate-seeking status are not required to complete a Transfer Orientation. These students should not have an orientation hold, and should contact their academic advisor regarding class registration.

I previously attended a transfer or freshman orientation at UT Dallas. Do I need to attend again?
You should attend an orientation designated for your first semester at UT Dallas. If you defer your admission and have previously attended an orientation within the past 12 months, you will not need to complete another orientation. If your deferral or reapplication period is longer than 12 months, you will need to complete the Transfer Orientation process again. If you have attended orientation within the past year then deferred, but still have an orientation hold, please contact our office to resolve your hold.

Example: A student attends Transfer Orientation for Fall 2020. They can defer their enrollment to Spring 2021, Summer 2021, or Fall 2021 without attending another orientation. If the student defers to Spring 2022 or later, they will have a "Transfer Orientation" hold placed on their account and must attend a transfer orientation.

How do I defer my admission?
Directions to request the deferral of admission can be found here. Contact the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services for questions about deferring admission. Restrictions and deadlines apply.

Financial Aid, Scholarships, Changing Major, and Housing

How can I apply for financial aid?
Visit the Applying for Financial Aid page or contact the Financial Aid Office at [email protected] for details regarding financial aid options, short-term loans and deadlines. You must be admitted to UT Dallas before the Financial Aid Office will process your financial aid application. However, you can submit the financial aid application before you are admitted.

How can I apply for a UT Dallas scholarship?
Visit the Transfer Scholarships page to learn more about available scholarships and their eligibility requirements. The Financial Aid Office also has a list of available scholarships at UT Dallas.

Can I change my admitted major?
Post admission major changes are subject to the approval of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the school of the new intended major. Students are encouraged to start the process as soon as possible. Students can read more about the major change process in the academic catalog. Students can also discuss major changes with an academic advisor in the students desired school.

Students who wish to change majors into the Naveen Jindal School of Management should review major change information here. Students will find change of major minimum requirements at the bottom of the page.

How can I apply for on-campus housing?
Visit the University Housing website for details. Contact Residential Life for questions about living on campus. Eligibility for campus housing is tied to admission and spots fill up quickly, so apply early. Contact Residential Life as soon as possible if you are interested in housing.
