Volunteerism & Service Learning

Here at UT Dallas, we’ve got many ways for students to get involved in volunteerism and service learning.

Transfer Mentor Program

Become a mentor for the Transfer Mentor Program. Mentors are volunteers seeking to help new transfer students transition to campus.

Successful and engaged UT Dallas undergraduates are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to mentor an incoming transfer student.

Office of Student Volunteerism

The Office of Student Volunteerism offers all kinds of volunteer opportunities for UT Dallas students, including Alternative Spring Break, Earth Week, VolunTemoc, and many others.

Do you like gardening or want to learn how to garden? Check out the UT Dallas Community Garden and sign up to assist with planting and harvesting or even reserve your own plot!

UTD students can even use the EngageUTD platform to log volunteer hours and become eligible to apply for VolunTIER awards like the Dean’s Service Milestone Recognition or the Service Honors award.

Want to learn more about EngageUTD? Explore the EngageUTD resource page or reach out to engageUTD@utdallas.edu.

Eco Hub & Sustainability Service Honors

Managed by the Office of Sustainability, the Eco Hub features approximately 20,000 square feet of high-quality composted soil and an apiary where students can care for honeybees.

A student-led initiative, the Eco Hub partners with the Comet Cupboard and North Texas Food Bank partner agencies to share food with food-insecure families across the greater Dallas area.

The Office of Sustainability also offers opportunities for students to earn the Sustainability Service Honors award for their commitments to sustainability initiatives.

Want to get involved?

Workday dates for the Eco Hub can be found on the Engage UTD platform.

You can learn more about the Sustainability Service Honors awards by visiting the Sustainability Service Honors website or contacting the Office of Sustainability at sustainability@utdallas.edu

Volunteerism at the Naveen Jindal School of Management (JSOM)

If you’ve transferred to UT Dallas and you’re enrolled at the Naveen Jindal School of Management (JSOM), you’re required to complete 100 hours of community service prior to graduation.

You can choose to volunteer with the Office of Student Volunteerism or the Eco Hub, or you can search through dozens of volunteer opportunities found on the EngageUTD tool, which is powered by the GivePulse software platform

Please note that you’ll need to report all volunteer hours in GivePulse. Community service hours at JSOM are managed by UTDserv.

For more information about the JSOM community engagement requirement, visit the UTDserv website or reach out to utdserv@utdallas.edu
