Research Opportunities & Resources

Now that you’re a UT Dallas student, you should begin exploring undergraduate research possibilities as soon as possible, as research opportunities are always in high demand.

But before you do, please take a close look at the Office of Undergraduate Education’s guidelines for prospective undergraduate researchers. That way, you’ll be well-informed before you start looking for research opportunities on campus. Some research opportunities are paid, some are volunteer roles, and some will allow you to receive academic credit for your engagement.

If you’re just getting started, we recommend using the research profile tool or learning more about the work that’s going on at UT Dallas’ many research centers. Students enrolled in the School of Brain and Behavioral Sciences should utilize the Undergraduate Research Portal, a matching tool for pairing student researchers with currently recruiting research faculty and labs.

Research Opportunities

The Office of Undergraduate Education offers the Undergraduate Research Scholar Awards each year to current UTD students. Additionally, you can also apply for the Bruce Gnade Undergraduate Student Travel Award or the Patti Henry Pinch Scholarship for travel or research activities.

The Summer Platform for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) program is available to all students, with abstract submission occurring annually in the mid-summer.

Additionally, the academic schools offer various opportunities for structured undergraduate research engagement:

Undergraduate Research Week

UT Dallas students can take advantage of poster contests, resume workshops, research panels and other special events. There’s even an Undergraduate Research Match Day hosted every spring semester.

Check out the Undergraduate Research Events webpage to find out more about upcoming events and opportunities.

Undergraduate Research Journal

You can submit your creative or research-related writing for review and possible publication in The Exley, the only undergraduate research journal here at UTD.

Interested in applying to join the Exley team? Check out their application details, ask someone who knows you well for a recommendation letter and submit an application!
